Author’s note: this story is an adaptation of a famous short story by Guy de Maupassant, ‘Le Signe’. Guy de Maupassant is predominantly associated with sensually erotic writing. His outlook on life was rather dark however as is shown in great detail in his masterpiece ‘Bel Ami’. This pessimism shines through in the original of this story as well. You won’t find it here though. I want Sherlock and John to have a happy time
