19th Century Daguerreotype Keepsakes
Safe for Work
G-Rated

Daguerreotypes were a very early kind of photograph done with light sensitive chemicals on a thin piece of silver-plated copper. Even after the chemicals dried, the image was very delicate and could easily be smeared or scratched off the surface of the metal. Because of this, people often kept their Daguerreotypes in sealed glass frames at home or in special velvet-lined keepsake carriers that could serve both as both a picture frame and a protective box. Typically, if a gentleman wished to keep such a token of regard upon their person, it was slipped into the interior left breast pocket where it could be concealed close to the heart.Soldiers, too, would keep such a treasure either in their field kit or tucked into their uniform where it could be readily at hand should they need to gaze upon it to strengthen their resolve in battle.

I've done three sets of these Daguerreotype keepsakes with slash couples- Sam and Dean as cowboys, Logan and Victor as Confederate and Union soldiers and now Sherlock and Watson as their Victorian selves. But John and Sherlock are the first pairing I've done who I can actually imagine carrying one another's keepsake around.

Love these! John looks all BAMF and Sherlock just looks grumpy: "Take the photo already, you idiot." Heh.
