My money is on Wedding being The Adventure of the Solitary Cyclist. I have no idea how Rat applies to the Empty House, but that has to be the first one. Bow as in His Last Bow would be... weird, what with the retirement and the bees, but no other ideas there.
While His Last Bow takes place after Sherlock's retirement, there's no reason they couldn't use the plot (which was about espionage I think) and not the retirement part.
Also keep in mind that His Last Bow was also the title of the book, not just the one story. This could just as easily be a misdirection.
Let's face it, everything here could be a misdirection. They could even mean the violin bow, for all that we know. I wonder what will happen in the fandom when actual pictures and videos start coming out, tumblr will probably implode. My dashboard is already losing its mind as we speak.
Oh, it's all misdirection. I'm 100% positive they only included wedding to make fandom lose its fucking mind. Either Gatiss or Moffat (I forget which) was making insinuations about Mary Morstan last year; they're basically just epic trolls. ;)
If I were in their shoes, I'd probably do the same. It must be fun watching hundreds of fans losing their minds over snippets of info that do not mean anything at all. :D
Honestly, I don't think they'll actually do it. I think the dynamic between John and Sherlock, which is pretty much the entire basis of the show's strength, would shift too much. So I don't think they'll do it, but I think they want us to THINK they'll do it. So I am expecting further trolling along those lines.
They could have Mary Morstan in the series briefly before killing her off because after all her death is canon... I can imagine them doing that just to draw a reaction from the fandom.
Whoever above said Moffat and Gatiss are epic trolls got it right as they'll do things just to get a reaction!
Well, also, with His Last Bow, keep in mind that Holmes and Watson hadn't seen each other in a long time, and Watson just got a telegram telling him where to be and to dress as a chauffeur. They could go that route instead of Empty House, couldn't they?
They could, although I guess that order is the order of the episodes, so Bow's going to be the third one. Again, it's not like it's confirmed, but since they always said the words for the second season in the right order, I don't see why they should shuffle them this time.
We know how they love to troll, but let us recall there are other weddings than John Watson's in the stories. The Disappearance of Lady Fairfax, the Solitary Cyclist... What other ones are there? Remind me!!?
In The Noble Batchelor the bride disappears right after the wedding. In Charles Augustus Milverton a wedding is threatened with blackmail. In The Illustrious Client Holmes is trying to convince a woman to not marry the evil Baron Gruner who ruins women and even murdered his latest wife. Milverton and Gruner are #1 and #2 of Canon villains I'd like to see on SHERLOCK.
Oh and "rat" is an important clue in The Boscome Valley Mystery.
I was, in fact, recalling the "rat" of Boscome Valley on the way home from dinner tonight... And I think I may have been thinking of The Noble Batchelor before...
Seconding Milverton and Gruber as villains I should like to see included.
Is the last word bow as in 'tied up in a bow' or bow as in 'a final bow'?
Don't scroll through tumblr if you don't want to watch fandom explode right now. The amount of bashing on a character that hasn't even been announced is boggling. I think that might actually be worse than any time they ever dared to introduce female characters in Supernatural.
I do seem to remember one of them mentioning that there may be another major cliffhanger at the end of season 3, one that may upset people as much as/even more than the one we're facing now. Tying The Final Bow to that makes me a bit uneasy to be honest.
These could all go many ways (and in many orders - I think his last three words did not perfectly correspond, switching "Hound" and "Woman") so who knows! Personally, I don't even know what I'm hoping for. Maybe Mrs. Hudson gets married. Maybe they have to pretend to be actors for a case (whoa, meta-performance!). Maybe there is an infestation at Angelo's.
I'm worried they're going to end the show with the 3rd season.
I hope not as they've promised us a worse cliffhanger that what The Reichenbach Fall was and I hate when a show ends on an unresolved cliffhanger!
Also I have to point out that Gatiss (I think) pointed out that there are many Sherlock Holmes stories they've not covered before... which I hope that means that'll want to do this for some years to come....I know BC has said he is not giving up Sherlock and it's something he'll always do.
I'm also desperately hoping that they'll continue for years and years. Benedict told fans not to worry, though, so I won't start worrying until he tells me to, lol!
