I was leafing through The Stage today (it's the British entertainment-business weekly I get for students studying drama) and spotted our favourite consulting detective being mentioned in an end-of-year review of British television.

Having read it I really wondered if the person doing the review had even been paying attention, or if he was claiming to have seen the show and in fact only caught up on clips on YouTube. There are a some very glaring mistakes to be spotted.

The nation may be divided between those who regard Sherlock as a brilliant reinvention of a timeless classic and other who dismiss it a triumph of style over content. But everyone who watched Holmes plunge to his death in the Reichenbach Fall episode – not the Swiss waterfalls of Conan Doyle’s original tale, but in this case the roof of a multi-storey car park – were united in bafflement when the detective was later spotted attending his own funeral.
Twitter went crazy with possible theories as to how Holmes perpetrated the hoax, but the producers refused to be drawn. I remain as clueless as everyone, but one thing I do know is that every illusion requires a distraction, and Andrew Scott’s performance of Moriarty was mesmeric enough to do the trick. In the spirit of grand larceny, the actor stole every scene he appeared in.
Later in the year, Scott starred in the excellent three part thriller The Town, which followed a young man’s reluctant homecoming to attend the twin funerals of his parents. Forget shock endings – The Town opened in truly unexpected style and held the interest from therein on.

There was also a nice picture of Andrew Scott in The Town. I must try and track that down to watch sometime.

I see what you mean -- a car park? Attending his own funeral?
