The second half of Friday was the SherlockeDCC party on the top floor of the San Diego Library. Back during Wonder Con I had offered help to Megan (www.thenerdygirlie.com) with the party. Some odd months later here we were looking out over San Diego nine floors up.

I'm not going to lie to you folks. When I first heard about Elementary I though, "how dare they! They can't make Watson a woman!" Being a hard core BBC Sherlock fan it just didn't feel right, especially since BBC Sherlock had just hit super stardom at this point.

Unpopular opinion, I did not like season three of Sherlock. Sorry, I know a lot of you out there probably did, but this is my opinion so let me explain. My problem with season three is that it played too much into the audience....

The world’s biggest premiere date mystery has been solved. EW has exclusively learned the return date for Sherlock, along with some scoop about how the third season plan came together.

Sherlock will return to PBS Masterpiece on Jan. 19 at 10 p.m. That means the show will air back-to-back for the first time with that other hugely popular and influential Brit import, Downton Abbey (which returns Jan. 5).

Undershaw is a property formerly owned by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the famous author of the Sherlock Holmes series. If you've visited my blog before, you know I dearly love Sherlock. So when I heard about the Save Undershaw campaign I dug into the cause.

Sherlock going to Comic-Con, US premiere set for 2014

The panel is afoot! Or will be, anyway. Sherlock is going to San Diego Comic-Con for the first time, bringing PBS’ Masterpiece cult hit to the fan convention later this month.

The panel will include Steven Moffat (co-creator, executive producer and writer), Mark Gatiss (co-creator, executive producer and writer) and Sue Vertue (producer). We’re told the actors will not be attending (not too surprising, since Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are landing big-screen projects) but there will be “surprises.” A Sherlock-loving EW writer named Hibberd will moderate. The panel’s exact day and time will be released by Comic-Con tomorrow.

We can also confirm that season three of Sherlock will indeed run in the U.S. on PBS in 2014, more details on that here (as usual, those Brits will get Sherlock first for some reason … something about making the show?).

Fans will surely have plenty of questions, and we’ll try to see if producers will give us any hints how the great detective survived his rooftop plummet in last season’s cliffhanger (roofhanger?).

Sherlock has previously gone to NYC Comic-Con, but not the San Diego mothership. We’re actually told this is the first time any PBS series has paneled at the 44-year-old fan convention — could that be true? So start your Downton Abbey 2014 lobbying campaign now. SDCC could use more fans dressed in Edwardian hats.

Ahem-
Benedict Cumberbatch confirms Sherlock series 4

Cumberbatch says he and co-star Martin Freeman have signed up for a further run of the BBC1 detective drama - and hints at the possibility of even more to come

In arguably the biggest (Sherlock) news of the century, Benedict Cumberbatch has announced that he and co-star Martin Freeman have signed up to make a fourth season of the BBC1 detective drama.

"We've agreed to two more series but I could get into trouble for saying that," revealed Cumberbatch at the South Bank Show Awards this afternoon.

"All I know at the moment is I'm doing these three [episodes of the upcoming series] and another three."

The star added that he would like to see the show continue beyond a fourth series but admitted it would depend on whether he, Freeman and co-creator Steven Moffat could find the time to do it.

"It just depends on Martin and I's availability, how long we can keep it going. It depends on Steven's ability. I'd love to keep it going."

Moffat is also showrunner on Doctor Who, while both Cumberbatch and Freeman are rising Hollywood stars. Freeman is Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson's ongoing Hobbit trilogy and Cumberbatch – as well as voicing characters in the same movies – is about to hit cinema screens as the enigmatic villain of Star Trek sequel Into Darkness.

Filming of Sherlock season three begins on Monday (18 March) with the series expected to air in the autumn.

then there was this-

I know Mark Sheppard wanted to play Sebastian Moran in this series and had talked to Mark Gatiss about it, so I have to assume that's not happening.

Various people who read my journals on DW and LJ, or interact with me in other ways, will probably be aware I was writing an article on fandom for a Media Studies magazine produced for 6th form students.

Yesterday I was sent a copy of the issue with my article in it which was an interesting experience. There were two versions of the text flying about and they seem to have used the first part of the first one and the second part of the second one.

I also think I should say thankyou to various people who have helped at various stages. This includes [dreamwidth.org profile] kalypso for journalism-type suggestions, [livejournal.com profile] impulsereader for quotations and sensible thoughts about non-sensible fans, [livejournal.com profile] themadblonde for proof reading, all the unsuspecting fans who I have talked to over time at locations while I was writing it and of course [livejournal.com profile] eanor who provided the photo of the Sherlock Holmes Museum. No-one (not even myself or the BBC) seems to have been credited for the photos that were used. At least we got good photos of the boys - the early 1st Series ones, which, although they do have a rather sick Mr Cumberbatch on them, I must say I prefer to the ones from Series Two. We also have a nice banner photo with that shot across the Thames of the bits of London I like to wander around in best.

I've sent copies of it out to as many people as I can think would be interested and have scanned it as both a PDF (contact me via LJ for a copy) and uploaded it as jpegs as well. You should be able to enlarge those to read the text. Have I missed anything I ask myself?

Now onto the next article, which I am still working on the title of, went to the cinema to see the new Bond film to think about for, and need to wait for the new Star Trek to come out to think about too! It's not so Sherlockian as this one but will probably talk about the characters in some way or another.

I was leafing through The Stage today (it's the British entertainment-business weekly I get for students studying drama) and spotted our favourite consulting detective being mentioned in an end-of-year review of British television.

Having read it I really wondered if the person doing the review had even been paying attention, or if he was claiming to have seen the show and in fact only caught up on clips on YouTube. There are a some very glaring mistakes to be spotted.
