If you haven't already seen the new Sherlock Mini-Episode put out on Christmas Eve you can go and see it here ... and now for a very fast and dirty location locate done while cooking Christmas Dinner.

Had I spotted the bin earlier I wouldn’t have been checking up on HSBCs in London, several varied Welsh locations, and even Bristol. Nice to know they have been back in Bute Town. As it's already on our trip itinerary for this year I am pleased as punch. Does show you how they can make one place look very much like another place though, even I was convinced this had to be somewhere in the City of London!

I am also going to ask if someone would be kind enough to help me.

I've only got the bog standard DVDs (and on these ones Sherlock and John are speaking French), hence M.O.L.O.S.S.E. (named after the Molossier dog breed) rather than H.O.U.N.D. [The actual title of the episode in French is of course, 'Les Chiens de Baskerville']

Speaking of Series 3...

Since they've started getting things ready for the actual filming next month, anything that might be spoilery- guest stars, actual shots from the episodes being filmed, things like that, please put it under a cut. Do NOT use the spoiler cut because it doesn't work with this layout and it won't actually cut anything.

I don't think episodes names should be considered spoilers because we're going to add them to the tags anyway.

I'm going to ask that once the episodes air, that nothing is uploaded here for 3 reasons: 1.there are a number of other places you can track the files down.
2. file sharing can lead to communities being shut down
3. the majority of things that are uploaded tend to pop up on tumblr even if you don't want it to and that is the fastest way to make your files get yanked from wherever you're hosting it.

How long are things considered to be spoilers? I know the majority of people will either be watching the episodes when they are or getting them shortly afterwards. Are they considered spoilers until the episodes actually air in the US or should there be some sort of a timeframe like '2 months after it airs in the UK'?

Thoughts? Comments?

I'm going to leave this up at the top for the next week.

This might be of use to a few Reichenbach Theorists ...

I was serendipitously passing through West Smithfield on Saturday (as you do) and I needed the loo and found my feet taking me automatically towards the canteen at Bart's. Coming out under the Henry Viii gate I spotted something that might be to our advantage. There was scaffolding being put up outside Shakar Newsagent across the road; they are having their roof done.

A chat with a nice worker arranged for my new camera to go for a ride in a bucket on a rope, and several photos to be taken from the roof top. I've had to use the basic software I have at work (MS Paint!) to stitch two together but it still gives you a good view of the whole panorama. I also think it's about the nearest any interested party is going to get to the roof at this moment in time.

Here's the link to the photo because I don't want it to mess up people's Flists (the photo is a bit big).

I have finally done a proper report for the Charlotte Street/Percy Street location in Fitzrovia in London. It comes in two parts, with notes on why I think they used it, a few added comments on the French dubbing for those scenes and advice on how to move actors along footpaths without the general public getting in the way!

Part One is here
Part Two is here

Enjoy!

Yes, I know that I am posting out of sequence, but having just spent the best part of three visits to London on this hunt, and a day this weekend on uploading my photos, creating mapping and screen grabbing like whoa, I wanted a bit of fun before I got into the bath. I will tidy this up and put things in the right order when I get the full collection of reports up.

Tonight's report covers rooftop running and jumping from A Study in Pink, and if I get there, interesting stuff about photos of alleyways on DVD boxes.

Last Weds I had to take a group of Biology students (at extremely sort notice, yet again) to London for a conference. I seem to be the 'Um, can you just ...' person at the moment. In a couple of weeks I go to Brighton with Physics students and we have to stay for two nights down there (eek!).

The good news about London was that while th kids were being lectured on the lungs and gaseous exchange and transport (hehe), I got to escape. I was actually going to Chinatown to scope out a restaurant for us to eat in later, but of course (and totally co-incidently) my route passed into more intersesting territory. The centre of London is quite small, and Hartswood have carpet bombed it with places they have filmed, which is why I have been able to do so much reporting up to now. My walk on Weds took me straight along one such Sherlock location (Percy St) and then right through the middle of another (various streets in Soho from the later Taxi chase) all from in ASiP. I snapped away like mad, need to do a bit of work to tidy up some of it when I go again (you do spot things when you get back home and watch the episode), but I should be able to start posting some of the report this week.

Here are a couple of photos.

It's too chilly to hang around in West Smithfield in the winter, so I put some of the many photos together for a last look round for this year.

It's getting a bit to chilly to be hanging around outside here in West Smithfield for any length of time, now autumn is upon us, but I had to show you this picture. It's the payphone by the Henry V111 gate at Bart's which does get in shot a time of two ... a place for leaving messages it seems now.

I really must get that article finished this next week. I have plenty of material and the stuff got today should add nicely to what I have already.

I was going to add a rant about security here being a pain, despite me being very polite and trying to build up a rapport over the months (and mention a certain gentleman's name) but I won't. I've done enough, time to move onto the next location.

It seems my excited waffling on about location hunting,  and the odd phenomenon of fans finding their way to Bart's to pay their respects, has gained me some notice. I have been asked to write an article on fandom (and how social media effects it) for a magazine which I have in my library, and Media Studies students use a lot. ...

While this is very exciting I need to get my brains in soak and decide what I am going to write about. What I also need is few people to talk to so I can add their voices to my writing. I suppose I should just go to London again, park myself in front of Pathology and wait (you always get a few people passing on an afternoon at the weekend) but then I had an idea.

I keep asking for fans in the UK within shouting (or even train travel) distance of London to meet up, so I am going try and do that again. I will probably be around next Saturday (the 29th Sept) to spend some time there, and finish up a few (more) locations I need to sort out, but I know that might be a bit short notice. I don't have to send this thing off until the end of November so I could, I suppose, be every hopeful and shedule something in mid-October and throw in some other popular Sherlock locations for good measure.  Is anyone free and would anyone like to join me?

The other problem is if I am going to write an article I need proper facts, and am going to have to contact the producers at some point. Does anyone know of an e-mail address I would send my queries to?

Another trip to London to see an art exhibition with BF this weekend got me let free to run around in the City of London ... It was just like old times and I made some new friends ...

I have been using my summer holidays to do a bit of tidying up of files of photographs and screen grabs in preparation for another round of posting. Before all that, however, I thought an easy access list of all the locations I have already visited might be useful as a reference for everyone.

So here you go, as a sticky in my LJ ...

Title: The Burial of the Dead.
Characters/Pairings: John/Sherlock (still in absentia at this point), Molly, Greg, Mycroft, Mrs Hudson
Rating: PG 13 for swearing
Disclaimer: Certainly don't own the boys (they belong originally to ACD, and their modern incarnations to Messrs Gattis and Moffatt and the BBC) but am borrowing them for a brief moment to play with them. Will return them unharmed.
Summary: After Sherlock jumped of the roof of St Bartholomew's Hospital John Watson realises that, despite his confusion, he has to stop mourning and make sense of everything. Meanwhile Sherlock is doing his best to return to his friends, but he's coming across problems he  didn't reallyexpect he would encounter.
Warnings: (as wisely suggested by natsuko1978) for depression triggers and unhelpful therapists.
